Recording

If it's about metal, hardcore, punk, rock, emo, pop, as well as jazz, classical music or just speech: every kind of music is welcome to us!

guitar recording in a studio

We use various locations for our recordings (such as recording studios, churches, special rooms with good acustics) and rent them - depending on desired acoustics and the budget. So we choose the recording room fitting to the kind of production, using our own equipment to meet our demands of quality and to be able to work quickly. Speech and vocals we usualy do at our location.

M/S mikrophone setup for drums

We bring the equipment needed for the recording with us. The setup is optimized and tested in advance, so our racks can be combined with a few plug connections to start secure in a minimum amount of time.

We are looking forward to your request - let us discuss your project in a non-binding meeting.

Process of recording using the example of a rock band

bass drum microphones

Because we record mostly external with our equipment, we start first of all with setting up the control room. During that time the band can tune their instruments, adjust their sounds and get prepared for the recording and rehearse if necessary. Afterwards we establish the recording room, choosing the best positions for the instruments and start setting up the microphones and wire everything up. After that is finished we start with the soundcheck – mostly with the drums, than the bass guitar and the guitar(s). The vocals we usually record at our location, but sometimes we record a guide-track of the vocals for a better orientation during the songs.

If you wish to play all together during the recording we record all at once, otherwise you play one after another.
Even if you play all together – depending on the local situation - we prefer to put the noisy instruments in a room apart to isolate them acoustically. Therefore we can minimize the crosstalk to the other instruments such as the drums. Of course, everything it‘s up to you which way you choose to record. If we record the instruments individually, they are already acoustically separated from each other, so it can take place in the same room. It is also possible to do something between the two opportunities. For instance drums and bass-guitar can play at once and then the other instruments. Preferably the recordings should be done with a metronome guide track.

There are different opinions about which way of recording is the best one. It is said, if all the instruments play at once, it gives the impression of more feeling or groove. But also the probability for mistakes is rising (more musicians are playing) and also cutting afterwards a single track can be more difficult. And if you want to correct a mistake during playing it‘s quite hard because of the crosstalk between the instruments. The alternative of recording separatly gives some musicians the feeling that the sound seems to be aseptic and cold. So choose the method which seems to fit better to you. If you have little experience recording in a studio we would recommend that you should play all at once.
